01/19/2010 - The Inside Job

In the comic strip Peanuts, Lucy once asked Charlie Brown if he had ever known anyone who was really happy.  Snoopy suddenly appeared, interrupting her sentence.  He danced across the frames of the strip with his nose high in the air and a smirk on his face, as if he owned the whole world.  He gave the appearance of being deliriously happy.  In the last frame of the cartoon Lucy asked Charlie Brown if he had ever known anyone who was really happy and still in their right mind.  The truth is... I would vote for Snoopy any day!

A man went to the doctor.  The physician told him, "I'm sure I have the answer to your problem."  The man answered, "I certainly hope so, doctor.  I should have come to you long ago."  The doctor asked, "Where did you go before?"  "I went to the pharmacist," the man replied.  The doctor snidely remarked, "What foolish advice did he give you?"  The man replied, "He told me to come and see you."

Often we look for happiness in the wrong places.  If you have a medical problem, see your physician.  If you have a problem with your car, see a mechanic.  If you have a legal problem, see your attorney.  But if you want to discover a new life of happiness...

1.  Remember, happiness cannot be found by searching for it.  It is an inside job.

2.  Find a worthy purpose and direction.

3.  Give yourself to others.

4.  Read the Bible, not for information, but for transformation.

5.  Watch the seeds of happiness blossom as you build a friendship with God through Jesus Christ.

In Jesus Christ you can live abunduntly, and that is happiness at its best.  Believe it and claim it!

Prayer:  Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us.  May we lose in order to find.  May we open our eyes and see the possibilities of your own Spirit.  Grant us now your peace - that peace which passes all understanding.  Through the grace of Jesus Christ.  Amen.
