Fifty years ago, Rosa Parks, a humble seamstress with tired feet, refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. This simple woman sparked a movement, the civil rights movement. Though she never held public office, Rosa Parks change American life by her willingness to say "no." Perhaps we all need like Don Quixote in "Man of La Mancha to "dream the impossible dream" More than forty years ago Martin Luther King, Jr. dared to dream of society where all were treated equally. Today we are encouraged to dream our dreams but never to be content until we see God's dream and his love fulfilled throughout humanity uniting us in peace. For Christians, for the Church, for all humanity, "you gotta have a dream...if you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?" Remember, "Where there is no vision the people perish" (Proverb 29:18). Friends of Dial Hope, make today a masterpiece because you are indeed to be a blessing to others.
Prayer: God of all people, you have called us to be dreamers of dreams and to dream that one day ours will be one nation, under you, with liberty and justice for all. We confess, however, that we are not always color blind; we dream too much and act too little. For all of us are persons, not pigmentations. Enable us, loving God, to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly before you. Make the spirit of Jesus Christ be contagious among us. In his name, we pray. Amen. |
