02/03/2010 - Simple Trust

In a little book, Children's Letters to God, seven, eight and nine-year old children expressed their faith, their hopes and their questions.  These letters are wonderful.  Let me share some with you;

Dear God, in Sunday School, they told us what all you do.  Who does it when you are on vacation?  Jane.

Dear God, I read the bible.  What does 'begat' mean?  Nobody will tell me.  Love, Allison.

Dear God, I bet it's very hard for you to love everybody in the whole world.  There are only four people in our family and I can never do it.  Nan.

Dear God, is it true that my father won't go to heaven if he uses his bowling words in the house?  Anita.

Dear God, did you mean for giraffes to look like that, or was it an accident?  Norma.

Dear God, I went to this wedding and they kissed right in church.  Is that okay?  Darla.

Dear God, I don't ever feel alone anymore since I found out about you.  Love, Nora.

Out of the mouths of children come fervent wishes, confessions, concerns, praise, and thanks.  As we read or hear these, we can understand more clearly why Jesus said, "Unless you become like little children, you shall not enter the Kingdom of Heaven."  Remember this day to have a childlike faith and a simple trust in God's love and care.

Prayer:  God of love, in whom we live and move and have our being, we thank you for the gift of this day which is an unrepeatable miracle.  May we never forget that we are a part of a global village and that all people are precious in your sight.  Through the grace of Jesus Christ.  Amen.
