02/01/2010 - Is the World Really a Mess?

A woman once said to her pastor, "Christianity has been in the world a long time, but look at the mess the world is in." Just then her son came running up to her covered with mud from making mud pies. The clergyman replied, "Water has been in the world a long time but just look at your son." Gilbert K. Chesterton put it this way, "Christianity has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found wanting where it has not been sincerely tried." A little boy said, "Grandma, will you still be alive when I'm in third grade?" He was then in the second grade. Now he is in the fifth grade and his Grandma is still alive and well. The important question for us is, will God still be alive in us? He will if we commit ourselves to Him. As we go through life, we will grow if He lives in us. Someone has said, "Our lives are God's gift to us; what we do with them is our gift to God." Friend of Dial Hope, God blesses you so you may be a blessing to others. With God's help, we can make this day a masterpiece.

Prayer:  Awesome God of hill and valley, of sunshine and thunderstorm, of the tall pinces of the forest and the humble forget-me-nots that bloom on the forest floor, of purring cats and snoring dogs, of popcorn and pizza, we thank you for the gift of this day which is unlike any other day. Forgive us when we do not think of you and help us to find our way back to who we really are in you, and to the joy of your salvation. Surround those who are listening with your healing love, especially the men and women defending our country in Iraq and Afghanistan. Through the love and grace of Jesus. Amen.
