02/17/2010 - Eliminate Negative Thinking

During the season of Lent, I want to suggest an acronym for the letters of LENT.  Let's Eliminate Negative Thinking.  The gospel is never boring, it is never ho-hum, it is always good news... TA-DA!

I firmly believe that our words of encouragement, our attitudes, can work miracles.  I have seen it many times.  The attitude of one person can change the whole atmosphere of a place.  An office, a class, a neighborhood, a church, a family, the whole situation can be changed, redeemed, made better by the influence of one person.

Some years ago I helped a young woman get a job.  After she had been in that new position for about a month her boss called to take me to lunch, and he said, "I want to talk to you about that young woman you sent to us last month."  I was worried, and asked, "Is she not working out?"  He replied, "Oh no, just the opposite.  She is great!  I wanted to tell you that she has absolutely worked a miracle in my office.  The whole attitude has changed.  She is a ray of sunshine.  It's unbelievable what she's done, and I wanted to thank you for sending her to us!"  The message is clear; when we act and live in the spirit of Jesus Christ we can do incredible, amazing things.  We can be miracle workers with our words, with our attitudes, and with our actions.  Lent; Let's Eliminate Negative Thinking!

Prayer:  Loving God, fill our emptiness and transform our staleness, that we may brim over with your delectable love and contagious enthusiasm.  Give us a passion to go into the world doing what the Lord requires; living with kindness and justice, walking your path, humbly.  Bless us so we may be a blessing to others.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.
