Today I want to urge you, yes, nudge you, to practice daily thanksgiving. If you think you're unhappy, you're wrong! You are really loaded with thanksgiving. The trouble is, you can't "feel" your many joys because they're all hidden by the temporary fog of sadness, grief, or discouragement that has moved in on you. If you could penetrate the fog of depression you'd find many flowers of joy blooming in the garden of your subconscious.
Alright, let's imagine our way into the midst of the mind to discover the joys we should be feeling now. Here's how. Force yourself to rediscover the blessings God is giving you right now! Make up a list from A to Z of all those goodnesses of God for which you should be grateful now. This is my personal list from A through G, then I'll skip all the way to Z. You do the rest.
A - Air to breathe
B - Bible, books, birthdays... (I love birthdays!)
C - Children
D - Doctors who care for us
E - Eyes to see the beauty of nature and the faces I love
F - Friends who love me
G - God who loves me unconditionally
Z - Zeal, enthusiasm for my ministry... zeal for Dial Hope. I thank God!
Now you make your list! Remember during this season of Lent, Let's Eliminate Negative Thinking. You are blessed to be a blessing to others.
Prayer: God of love, we thank you for blessings we sometimes take for granted. Today accept our gratitude for the gifts of thinking, acceptance, hugs, nature, kindnesses, salvation, goals, nation, ideals and friends. We pray in the spirit of Jesus Christ, who came not to make life easy but to make us equal to life. Amen. |
