In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus said, "You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:14, 16)
Unimaginable sources of light are present in our beings, waiting to be turned on. Each of us can generate ample juice when we are in the dark, despairing, unenlightened. We don't always have to turn to outside resources first. "This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine" runs the spiritual. We may be amazed when we turn on our lights. Friend of Dial Hope, today, be a candle of hope and make today a masterpiece.
Let us Pray: God of love, we are filled with awe at your majestic creation. The song of the cardinal, the funny antics of the chimpanzee, the clumsy but graceful pelican, the friendship of a cat or dog, the speed of a hummingbird, the smell of gardenias, the velvet beauty of a rose, the Milky Way. Our souls sing of the wonder of your love. How great Thou art! This day we pray for those whose candles of hope grow dim and weak, for those who are hungry, who are sick, who are alone, who grieve, who are in pain. Fan the flames, blow your spirit of gentleness and strength into their lives so that their candles burn long and bright. Wrap your unconditional love around the men and women, saving our country at home and abroad. In Jesus name Amen. |
